I am so happy you are here. I'm Sherry M. White, Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in the District of Columbia, with over decade of experience. I graduated from The Catholic University of America’s Master Social Work Program, specializing in clinical social work. My undergrad was completed at Tennessee State University... Let's Go HBCU's!

The foundation of my work is based in Psychodynamic theory, particularly Attachment Theory. I believe all of us were born healthy and whole...but life happened and for better or worse, and we adjusted. Some of those adjustment became maladaptive. My early work involved serving adults facing severe and persistent mental health disorders, providing support to parents of children involved in the child welfare system, and assisting individuals struggling with substance use issues. As I got to know each client, I was struck by the prevalence of those who had suffered from trauma and attachment injuries in their childhood. It was in those job settings that I came to know that people are just doing the best they can do and everyone deserves grace and compassion.

I bring that lens to my work today, with the understanding that each of us have a story. I would love to hear yours. My therapy sessions are tailored for your individual comfort. Whether you prefer a phone or video session, we can do that. Many of my clients enjoy sitting in their yards or going for a walk while we chat. Folks who work with me find that I show up as a real person...not someone who's playing the role of a psychotherapist.
